Description

♻️ Choosing reuse with a used container Buying a 40 ft used shipping container is a sensible decision. Every year, hundreds of thousands of containers are taken out of maritime transport after more than 10 years of service, even though they remain perfectly usable. Reusing them allows us to make the most of what already exists rather than producing new units. A more sustainable approach that reduces the environmental footprint while offering a high-performance and economical storage solution. 💁 Used 40 ft DRY watertight container: who is it for? The 40 ft used DRY Class A container is aimed at both professionals and private customers with significant storage needs. On the professional side, it is ideal for companies, farms or construction sites that need secure, high-volume storage for equipment, goods or materials. On the private side, it can be installed on a plot of land to store furniture, light vehicles or large amounts of personal belongings. Its capacity and watertightness make it a reliable long-term outdoor solution. 📐 What does DRY mean? The DRY designation, when applied to a 40 ft used DRY watertight container (Class A / last voyage), refers to a shipping container of standard height. With an internal headroom of 2.39 m, it offers enough space for the majority of storage needs. Unlike a High Cube, it does not provide additional height, which makes it easier to transport and handle. It is today the market standard, valued for its versatility and compatibility with all logistics equipment. 🏅 Condition of the used container: what does Class A mean? A 40 ft used “Class A” shipping container represents the best quality level available on the second-hand market. Coming from maritime service, it is around ten years old, which results in visible wear marks linked to its use: traces of rust, damaged paintwork, dents on the walls, marked flooring or doors that are harder to operate. These elements remain superficial and do not affect its capabilities. The container retains all its strength and performance for reliable storage use, including outdoors. 🔍 Is this 40 ft container inspected? Yes, every 40 ft used watertight shipping container is checked before being put on sale. A complete technical inspection is carried out to verify its overall condition and its ability to be used immediately. This inspection covers in particular watertightness, structure (no perforations, corrosion level, stability), flooring and the proper operation of the doors and locking systems. If necessary, repairs are made to guarantee reliable use. The container is then certified “wind & watertight” (WWT), ensuring perfect protection against air, water and the weather. 🚢 Can a Class A unit go to sea? Yes, the 40 ft used DRY Class A container is authorised to perform a maritime transport in the context of a last voyage (Cargo Worthy). This authorisation is valid for a limited period, generally up to 6 months after purchase. It is based on the issuance of a temporary CSC certificate, available on request, which attests that the container is still fit to embark safely for a single trip. Beyond this period, it no longer meets the standards required for regular sea use. It remains perfectly suited for land-based use, particularly for storage. 🎨 Can I choose the colour of my shipping container? The colour of a 40 ft used DRY watertight container (Class A / last voyage) cannot be chosen in advance. These containers come directly from maritime transport and retain their original colour, linked to their former operator. Depending on incoming stock, shades may vary (blue, red, green, burgundy…) and wear marks may be present: discolouration, touch-ups or traces linked to use. Units are randomly selected based on available stock. If appearance matters for your project, you should prefer a one-trip container, which lets you select a custom shade from the RAL chart. 🔧 How to maintain a Class A unit? The 40 ft used watertight container naturally shows wear marks from past use, particularly corrosion areas or weathered paint. Regular maintenance stabilises these elements and extends its lifespan. It is recommended to treat the affected areas: sand the rusted parts, apply an anti-rust treatment and, if needed, retouch with paint suited for outdoor use. The locking systems can also be maintained with regular greasing to ensure proper operation. Particular attention should be paid to door seals to maintain a good watertight finish. Finally, installation on stable, well-drained ground limits exposure to moisture and protects the flooring. To go further… Do I need a building permit to install my container?
