♻️ Why buy used?
Buying a 20 ft used DRY watertight shipping container is a smart and responsible choice, a genuine gesture for the planet. After 10 to 15 years of service at sea, hundreds of thousands of containers leave the maritime circuit every year, even though they can still be used for many more years. Giving them a second life makes the most of an existing resource rather than producing new equipment. Less raw material, less energy, less impact: a simple solution that combines storage with a more sustainable approach, while also being kind to your wallet! 💁 20 ft used DRY watertight container: who is it for? Buying a 20 ft used DRY watertight container is aimed at both professionals and private customers looking for a reliable and accessible storage solution. On the professional side, it is ideal for construction sites, tradespeople, companies or farms, to safely store materials, tools or goods. Its strength and watertightness make it well-suited to outdoor use, even in demanding conditions. On the private side, this used shipping container can be installed on a plot of land or in a garden to store furniture, seasonal equipment or DIY material, particularly during works or a move. 📐 What does DRY mean? The DRY designation, in the case of a 20 ft used DRY watertight container, refers to a shipping container of standard height, namely 2.59 m externally and 2.39 m of internal headroom. It differs from High Cube models, which provide an additional 30 cm of height. This format is the most widespread on the market, as it is lighter, more compact and does not incur any extra transport cost linked to its height. It is compatible with all standard infrastructure (gantries, trailers, loading platforms…), which makes it easy to handle and install. 🏅 Condition of the used container: what does Class A mean? A 20 ft used “Class A” shipping container represents the best quality level available on the second-hand market. Selected to guarantee immediate use, it nonetheless remains a piece of equipment that has served more than ten years in maritime transport. As such, it may show normal wear marks that give it the raw, industrial look that is highly appreciated today: chipped paint, rust, dents on the walls, marked flooring or doors that are harder to operate. These elements do not in any way affect its performance. 🔍 Is this used container inspected? All our 20 ft used DRY watertight (Class A) containers for sale are inspected: they have undergone a complete technical inspection before being put on sale. This check focuses in particular on water tightness, the general condition of the structure (no perforations, corrosion level, stability), the strength of the flooring, and the proper operation of the doors, hinges and locking systems. Defective elements are repaired if necessary to guarantee a reliable and secure use. Each used container is thus certified “wind & watertight” (WWT): it retains perfect tightness to air and water, ensuring effective protection against moisture and the weather. 🚢 Can Class A go to sea? Yes, the Class A watertight used container is authorised to go to sea (Cargo Worthy), but only to perform a last voyage. This means it is allowed to embark on a ship one final time, generally within 6 months from its date of sale. This tolerance relies on the issuance of a temporary CSC certificate, to be requested at the time of purchase, which attests that the container is still safe enough for a single sea trip, although it no longer meets the requirements for regular use. Beyond this period, its structural condition and watertightness are no longer guaranteed for prolonged sea use, even if it remains perfectly suited to land-based storage. 🎨 Can I choose the colour of my used shipping container? No, it is not possible to choose in advance the colour of a 20 ft used DRY watertight (Class A) shipping container. These models come from the international maritime fleet and are collected in the state in which they were withdrawn from the logistics circuit. Their original colour, often linked to their former shipping company (blue, green, red, burgundy…), varies from one unit to another. Used containers for sale are randomly selected from our depots based on incoming stock. Over time, the exterior shade may also be altered by use, revealing faded areas, paint touch-ups or traces of rust. For projects where appearance is an important criterion, we recommend choosing a one-trip container, which lets you select the colour according to the RAL of your choice. 🔧 How to maintain your used container? The 20 ft Class A used container, already marked by the years and by intensive use, requires particular maintenance to preserve its structure and extend its lifespan. To slow down the progression of rust, it is advisable to carry out regular maintenance: light sanding of the affected areas, application of an anti-rust treatment and, if necessary, localised repainting with paint suited to metal and outdoor use. It is also useful to grease the locking mechanisms and to monitor the condition of the door seals. A proper installation on stable, well-drained ground also limits moisture rising under the flooring.
