Description

Who is the 10 ft container for? Compact and easy to position, the 10 ft shipping container is ideal for users who have limited space or restricted access. It is aimed at private individuals as well as professionals, and fits perfectly into a garden, a courtyard, an urban construction site, a retail-park car park or even a warehouse. In the construction sector, it is particularly popular for securing small tools and equipment in the immediate vicinity of work areas. Thanks to its small footprint, it provides secure storage without blocking site traffic. It is an effective solution for making the most of every square metre available. What products can be stored in a 10 ft container? The 10 ft container is perfectly suited to storing low-volume products that nevertheless require protection against theft and bad weather. On the professional side, it easily accommodates tools, construction materials, production surpluses, archives and accounting documents… Private users can store garden furniture, DIY tools, bicycles or boxes during a move or renovation work. Its compact format remains generous nonetheless: it can hold up to 5 Europe pallets of goods or about 120 standard-sized cartons (60 × 40 × 40 cm). A practical and secure solution to keep your belongings accessible, sheltered and well organised. Is a permit required to install it on a plot of land? With its 6.5 m² ground footprint, the 10 ft container does not fall within the scope of the building permit. By contrast, a prior declaration at the town hall is generally required if its installation is planned for an extended period or in an area subject to specific urban-planning rules. As an example, any placement on public land (car park, public road, commercial space) requires the agreement of the local authority. If the container is used temporarily for less than 3 months, no formality is in principle necessary. Nevertheless, it is always advisable to consult the local urban plan (PLU) or to contact the town's planning department in order to anticipate any local constraints, particularly in classified or protected sectors. Does a used version of the 10 ft container exist? It is extremely rare to find a used 10 ft container. This compact format is not used in international maritime transport, since it does not correspond to the loading standards of container ships. Shipping companies favour 20 and 40 ft models, which are more profitable on a logistics scale. The 10 ft is therefore manufactured essentially for the land-based storage market, as a “one-trip” container (used only once for transport). That is why the used offer is almost non-existent, and when one is available, prices remain close to those of new units. If you absolutely need a used container for budgetary reasons and you have no space constraint, it may be more interesting to turn to a 20 ft container, which is far more common on the second-hand market. Can I move it myself? Thanks to its reduced format, the 10 ft shipping container is relatively easy to handle. It can be moved by you with a forklift or a suitable lifting device, provided that safety rules are followed since the container still weighs a little over one tonne. This handling capability makes it an ideal solution if you need to move it frequently, as is often the case in event management, construction or agriculture. If you plan regular moves, we recommend installing it on concrete pads or directly on the ground, provided it is perfectly flat, stable and drained. This will facilitate handling while preserving the structure of the container. How can a 10 ft container be fitted out? The 10 ft container offers an ideal base for many conversion projects. It can be transformed into a secure garage for bicycles or motorbikes, with the addition of a practical sectional door. It can also be adapted into a pop-up shop for an event such as a trade show, market or fair, to easily display and sell products. It is also possible to make it into a mobile food space, equipped as a bar or snack outlet, with a welcome counter and custom openings. These transformations make it possible to create compact, easy-to-move structures, ideal for professional uses that require flexibility. At MouvBox, we offer 10 ft containers already converted for sale, and we also carry out custom conversions in our workshop, depending on your needs. Download the technical datasheet
