Description

Used refrigerated container: what is its general condition? The 20 ft used refrigerated container, also called REEFER, comes from international maritime transport: it was used for several years by shipping companies to store fresh or frozen goods. It retains an operational refrigeration unit, good insulation (injected polyurethane foam), as well as a watertight and robust structure. However, its intensive use has resulted in visible signs of wear: localised corrosion, scratches, dents or traces of repairs (welds, wooden parts…). The opening and closing of the doors may also be more difficult than originally. These defects are purely cosmetic or mechanical, with no impact on thermal performance or the container's overall watertightness. Is the operation of the refrigeration unit checked? Yes, every used refrigerated container undergoes a complete technical inspection called PTI (Pre-Trip Inspection) before being made available. This standardised test verifies the proper operation of the refrigeration unit, including the compressor, temperature sensors, fan, control display and electrical system. The container is tested empty, with a rise and a drop in temperature, to ensure it can maintain a stable temperature continuously. This inspection guarantees immediate commissioning, with equipment ready to plug in and matching the expected cooling performance. The engine, however, is no longer under warranty: in the event of a later breakdown, repairs are at the buyer's expense. What temperature range can it maintain? The 20 ft refrigerated container can maintain an adjustable temperature range between +20 °C and -20 °C, with very good thermal stability. Thanks to its industrial refrigeration unit and its injected polyurethane foam insulation, it ensures a constant temperature even in case of significant external climate variations. The setting is made directly via the digital control panel, allowing precise adjustment of the desired setpoint. This level of performance is suitable both for chilled and for freezing use. The temperature drop is gradual, and the unit operates as a standalone cold-storage solution once plugged into an appropriate supply. What products can be stored in a refrigerated container? The REEFER container allows the storage of all types of temperature-sensitive products, in chilled or frozen conditions. It is particularly suitable for storing foodstuffs: meat, fish, seafood, dairy products, vegetables, pastries, ready meals… It can also accommodate non-food products such as medicines, cosmetics or certain chemical materials that require stable thermal conditions. This type of shipping container is widely used in the food industry, logistics, events, mobile catering, pharmacy or even agricultural operations. Does it comply with sanitary standards? Yes, the used refrigerated container meets the essential sanitary requirements for the storage of food or sensitive products. Its food-grade aluminium interior lining is designed for easy and regular cleaning, with no retention of bacteria or moisture. The injected polyurethane foam insulation avoids thermal bridges and guarantees a constant temperature. Although it is not certified “agri-food” at sale, it can be used in full compliance for food storage purposes, provided that appropriate maintenance is ensured. It is also suitable for professionals subject to regular sanitary inspections, such as restaurateurs or cold logistics operators. What type of power supply is required? The 20 ft REEFER container runs on three-phase 380 V power, which corresponds to a standard industrial electrical supply. This type of current is essential to power the refrigeration unit and ensure stable operation, in particular during temperature drop or hold phases. A specific socket (CEE 32A, 5-pin) is generally used for the connection, and the container is delivered ready to plug in. Before installation, it is important to check that your site is compatible with this electrical power. In case of doubt, an electrician can easily perform the necessary connection. How is the cold diffused in a REEFER container? In a refrigerated container, the cold is diffused uniformly and continuously thanks to an integrated ventilation system. The cold air is blown from the refrigeration unit, located at the rear of the container, then circulates in a loop through the interior space. The floor, called the T-floor, is specially designed to allow optimal air circulation under the pallets or goods, thus avoiding hot spots. This system ensures a homogeneous cooling of the entire volume, whatever the load, and guarantees precise maintenance of the programmed temperature. Is there a dehumidification function? Yes, the used refrigerated container is equipped with a humidity regulation function, integrated into the refrigeration system. This option limits condensation inside the container and maintains a stable humidity level according to the needs of the stored products. The rate is generally adjustable via the control panel, within a certain range (often between 60 % and 85 %, depending on the model). This functionality is particularly useful for the storage of moisture-sensitive products, such as fruit, vegetables or certain pharmaceutical products. It also contributes to preserving the integrity of the packaging. Download the technical datasheet
